This commemorative artwork represents the solar eclipse occuring in Western Australia just before midday on the 20th April 2023. Only limited prints have been made and this artwork will not be reproduced.

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the earth. A total solar eclipse happens on only one part of the earth every 400 years. A total solar eclipse will be visible from the towns of Onslow and Exmouth in Western Australia with a 40km wide shadow passing over surrounding areas.

I wanted to capture this once in a lifetime event. In the painting, the eclipse is surrounded by elements of our Western Australian coastline and rugged landscape, including local fauna from the land and sea. Symbols represent people travelling to the North West of Australia to witness the event, journeying from other places following the sun. Images show groups of people, friends and family, sitting along the waters edge, where they will see the eclipse in all it's glory.
